EVENT SPOTLIGHT: PORTLAND YOGA COLLECTIVE @ TWELVE

For our second Provisioning / Event spotlight, we had the pleasure of interviewing the owner of the Portland Yoga Collective Jess Fadale. Portland Yoga Collective along with their brilliant instructor Christina Spencer will be hosting yoga classes behind the marina on the lawn of Twelve - located on 115 Thames St, Portland, ME 04101. PYC brings a 60-minute powerful flow making Monday’s your new favorite weekday. This class is set to focus on building strength and stability with all levels welcome to join.

What is your role with Portland Yoga Collective?

Hey there – my name is Jess and I'm the owner and one of the teachers at Portland Yoga Collective.

What services do you offer clients, and what is PYC?

Portland Yoga Collective is a yoga studio in the heart of downtown Portland. We offer an array of yoga classes, including Vinyasa, Power Flow, Restorative, Yin, Family Yoga and more! Our entire class schedule is available to take in-studio and virtually. In addition to classes, we host workshops, private events, parties and private lessons! Fun fact: our gorgeous space is also available to rent!

How long have you been teaching yoga, and do you offer private lessons?

I have been teaching yoga for about 8 years now, but I feel like I'm just scratching the surface when it comes to what this practice is all about. We do offer private and small group lessons. Students have requested individualized attention for a number of reasons, including being new to yoga, a desire to go deeper into the practice than a public class lends itself to, recovering from an injury, and more!

What are the most popular classes?

Folks tend to love the more vigorous practices like Vinyasa and Power Flow classes. Something that's really exciting to me is to have a strong mix of slower practices offered at the studio – Restorative, Yin, Slow Flow, Sound Bath & Yoga Nidra, Meditation – and to see more and more of our students leaning into the all-important practice of constructive rest and slooooowing down.

Where is the most unique place you have practiced yoga? This could be teaching or learning!

I'll tell you what...practicing yoga in my own studio still blows my mind a year into owning this business. What a gift.

How far in advance are you booking classes and private lessons, and how much notice would you need to book this service?

Students are welcome to drop into our public classes and workshops, although we do recommend signing up ahead of time as some of our classes and workshops get quite full! When requesting private lessons, we recommend a week's notice to allow us to find the best student-teacher fit and for everyone to check their calendars.

What is the #1 piece of advice that you would give to all of your students before coming to your classes?

Bring a curious mindset to your mat, leave judgements behind (let's be real – chances are they're not all that helpful anyways).

What is your favorite flow, and why?

Ooooh an impossibly hard question! Sometimes I feel called for fast, vigorous movement – other times I feel called for deep, constructive rest. So I guess my favorite flow is the one that honors my body in that moment.

For Fun: If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?

To remove the phrase "I can't" from the vocabulary of whomever I'm speaking to. I consider one of my current superpowers to be a hype-woman, but zapping "I can't" out of peoples mouths and minds would take this strength to the next level :)
