Summers are better in Maine. From the stunning natural coastline, to fresh seafood, to revered landmarks, it is the perfect place to make lasting memories and soak up the warm summer sun. No Portland summer would be complete without checking off these items from your bucket list.

1. Sip a cocktail on the patio at twelve

Twelve is the award-winning restaurant housed inside Building 12, just steps from Fore Points Marina. They are known for their French-inspired menu and prix fixe options, with an outdoor patio overlooking the marina and Casco Bay. Enjoy one of their many craft cocktails as you soak in the idyllic views.

2. Explore Fort Gorges

Located in Casco Bay, Fort Gorges is a former United States military fort from the Civil War Era. No battles took place at the site, and it has since been transformed into a park. Just a short ride from Fore Points Marina, it is a great spot to explore or have a picnic!

3. Ride the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad

If you've ever heard the whistle of a train while at Fore Points Marina, that is the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad! This historic train conducts several rides each day of the week where passengers can soak in views of the Maine coastline along the Eastern Prom and learn about the history of the narrow gauge railway.

4. Enjoy an Ice cream on Peaks Island

One of the many islands of Casco Bay, Peaks Island is home to biking and walking trails, two public beaches, and delicious ice cream to enjoy after a long day of exploring the island.

5. See live music at Thompson’s Point

A vibrant waterfront destination along the Fore River, Thompson’s Point presents musical performances with a view. Acts to see this summer include Vampire Weekend, Mt. Joy, Father John Misty, Iron and Wine, and more.

6. Morning Coffee at Bard

With locations downtown and their coffee trailer at Fore Points Marina, Bard is your go-to for coffee in Portland. With fresh brews and rotating seasonal flavors, it is the perfect jolt of energy to fuel your day in Maine.

7. Portland Head Light

Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in the state of Maine, and arguably the most picturesque. The lighthouse resides next to Fort Williams Park, a great spot for walking, kite flying, picnics and more, and the keeper’s house has been transformed into a museum and gift shop.

8. Explore the Old Port

The old port is where you will find some of Portland’s best dining and shopping. Foodies will delight in the array of award-winning restaurants and you will be sure to find the perfect keepsake at one of the many local businesses. Wander the cobblestone streets and admire the historic brick buildings on your visit to Portland this summer.

9. L.L. Bean Flagship Store

Take a short ride over to Freeport, Maine to see the L.L. Bean Flagship Store! Here, you can pick up a pair of Bean Boots and feel like a true New Englander. Be sure to snap a photo with their iconic boot statue out front while you are there!

10. Lobster Rolls

There’s nothing quite like Maine lobster. Whether you prefer cold lobster salad, or a hot buttery roll, it is sure to delight!
