The name Twelve pays homage to the building’s fascinating past. Originally known as Building 12, this historic structure was once a “Pattern Building Storehouse” during Portland’s 19th-century railroad boom. It served as a storage space for the molds used to create parts for trains. Though the building fell into disrepair after it ceased operations in 1982, it was meticulously preserved during its renovation in the 2010s. In a feat of architectural preservation, the building was carefully dismantled and reassembled to maintain its original character—brick by brick.
Today, the ground floor of this beautifully restored building is home to Twelve, where modern design meets Maine’s storied past in a sleek, upscale setting. Executive Chef Colin Wyatt and his team curate a seasonal menu, inspired by the flavors of classic French bistros and crafted from the freshest local ingredients.
